Zoëtrøpe are a London based three piece no wave band, who formed last year. They have been consistent on the local gig circuit since their formation, slowly but surely building a cult following. As a special bonus to their first single, they gave away free pairs of personalized pants with giant “Z“‘s on the butt. D.I.Y lives.

AIDS Wolf-We Multiply

So, AIDS Wolf officially broke up today, thus forever smashing my hopes of seeing them and Cancer Bats play the most appropriately paired (only by name and not at all by sound) show… No one’s made that joke before. Please don’t tell me this actually happened one time, because I wouldn’t be surprised and it would only further my disappointment.

Anyway, AW were a noise/no-wave band from Montreal, Quebec. They started in the early 2000s just as this sort of music was getting more attention and wider audiences. There wasn’t so much critical acclaim but they found a pretty solid crowd of listeners/other bands that shared what they wanted to do.

If you read their goodbye post, it (sadly) highlights how things can change, also known as that terrible moment when reality kicks in:

The vibrant scene we were part of seems to barely exist and it turns out that no one is actually interested in an hour long record of very formal harsh jams.

So we are playing our last 3 gigs in May. Not because we no longer get along , cause we do , and not because we aren’t happy with the actual music making , because we are. It’s simply not sustainable to be in this type of project for us anymore. 9 years is a long time to invest all of yourself in something that gets next to no feedback. 

It’s a massive shame to hear that a band has split not because they no longer care for each other or the music they make, but because they don’t feel anyone wants to hear them. I hope they come to realize how much of an impact they actually made, and perhaps now that they’re gone, others will give them the acknowledgement they deserved.
